This branding project used a phenakistoscope and a thaumatrope as advertising platforms. It’s interesting to see the Victorian aesthetic promoting a contemporary brand, and that the phenakistoscope features glasses–an optical technology depicting an optical technology. Thaumatropes were pretty commonly used as advertisements in the nineteenth century. They’re not too much more expensive to produce than business cards, and it would be great to see a resurgence of this practice! Think of the possibilities!
