Mike Relm’s turntable zoetrope

I came across this video by DJ Mike Relm, who has constructed a zoetrope from his turntable, so that the spinning/scratching of the record animates a series of images. The video is a little bit overly-produced and it’s difficult to get a sense of the context of the performance. What seems notable, however, is the double use of the moving surface (kind of like the escalator animation), and also the fact that he seems to be projecting the images onto a series of large screens in the background. It would be interesting to hear more about that component of the project.
More about the project here.
