Lately I’ve noticed lenticulars in a variety of locations, including in museum galleries, as public installations (such as the one below from Spreeblick, via Wooster Collective), and as advertisements. The ability to make the same surface appear different from different angles encourages a kind of double-take. When I encounter them, I take a moment to backtrack to see the effects again. Whether it’s an animation that progresses as you move past the lenticular surface, or several phases of an action, or a picture that seemingly materializes from nowhere, they interestingly change the routine of hurrying by, inviting a second or third look.
